Berthe Morisot exhibition at the Marmottan Monet museum: exclusive images
Two young girls asleep on a bed, their heads back and their chests exposed... Same subject, same taste for intimacy and femininity, but the century is different. Will you be able to recognize the work of Berthe Morisot compared to that of her illustrious elder, the painter François Boucher?
Discover the light and delicate touch of one of the great ladies of the impressionist adventure in the light of the rococo compositions and gallant scenes of the greatest artists of the past century. Here are sixty-five masterpieces of elegance and preciousness which bear witness to the links uniting the allusive and versatile work of the “angel of the unfinished” to the art of Antoine Watteau, Jean-Claude Honoré Fragonard or Jean-Baptiste Perronneau.
Unprecedented in its approach, this gentle exhibition is distinguished above all by the numerous treasures it contains, such as this Woman at the Toilet of great sensuality or this detail highly symbolic of a Venus going to ask Vulcain for her weapons, a copy after François Boucher executed by Morisot at the Louvre museum in order to adorn his living room-workshop, his only painted work hung in his apartments. This understanding of the genius of the Enlightenment will also give rise to a legend according to which Berthe Morisot is a distant relative of Fragonard. A myth that takes on its full meaning here.
