Like every year, Paris becomes the world capital of contemporary art for a weekend. To take the pulse of what's new, head to the Grand Palais Éphémère where Paris + embodies the showcase of this new global hegemony with the gathering of 150 galleries from all over the world, closely followed by the biggest stars of contemporary art.

Unsurprisingly (or almost), we find the giants Takashi Murakami, Chiharu Shiota, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Giuseppe Penone, Fabrice Hyber and Daniel Buren in a good position, all represented by the mega-galleries such as Perrotin, Templon, Ropac or Gagosian . These industry heavyweights are not the only ones to have made the trip... In total, 150 French and international galleries have gathered in Paris to present to us the crème de la crème, including all young institutions supported by rising stars of the contemporary scene. On the program: discoveries, some compulsive purchases, favorites and quite a few surprises...

From this spectacular second edition, we will remember from the start the madness of Ai Weiwei who allows himself a very pop reinterpretation of the portrait of Napoleon crossing the Great Saint-Bernard - head down, riding not his faithful thoroughbred but a zebra. During our visit, we will remember the virtuosity of Eva Jospin at the Galleria Continua, the freshness of Fiona Rae's paintings at the Nathalie Obadia Gallery, the poetry of Niki de Saint Phalle mixed with that of Jean Tinguely. We will also undoubtedly remember this explosive portrait by Ibrahim Meïté Sikely presented by the Galerie Anne Barrault, this macabre carousel by Hans Op de Beeck or this hypnotizing work by Simphiwe Buthelezi, a 27-year-old South African visual artist unknown in Europe but who is benefitting this weekend end of a formidable solo show. And you, what will you keep from this edition of Paris +?

Art unfortunately has a price: €40 for a short day up close to the stars of contemporary art. A high sum, likely to dissuade onlookers. Fortunately, the fair offers a completely crazy outside area accessible for free. Follow us !
To continue this arty stroll, it’s happening here.
