FOLLOWING WATER DAMAGE, THE CLAUDE GILLOT EXHIBITION HAD TO CLOSE ITS DOORS PREMATURELY.

If the student is condemned to surpass the master, what happens to the latter? Such is the tragic fate of the brilliant Claude Gillot. This virtuoso designer and engraver from the last years of the Grand Siècle indeed suffers from a very common illness, that of having been eclipsed by his disciple Antoine Watteau, to whom the old artist had nevertheless taught everything. Relegated to the margins of art history, Claude Gillot is today reborn from his ashes thanks to this sublime exhibition, the largest event ever dedicated to him. Parodies, scenes of witchcraft, pranks and fairground improvisations revive the memory of an unjustly forgotten prince of satire, comedy and the performing arts.
