To close its prolific sixtieth anniversary, the Matisse Museum welcomes Shirley Jaffe for a retrospective which brings her work into dialogue with that of the leader of Fauvism. We then discover that the latter has long been the reference for the American artist who admired her ability to paint paintings that “give people energy and imagination”. An inspiration which, when retracing his career, becomes obvious. Little by little, his creations are imbued with the deluge of colors, the fantasy in the forms and the freedom in the composition which were characteristic of Matisse's work to finally form a unique style that we no longer tire of. watch again and again...
