Teruhisa Yamanobe exhibition at the Galerie de l’Europe
Teruhisa Yamanobe is an artist who likes to blur the lines. At first glance, we would swear that this landscape with its ancient charm comes straight from the countryside of the English painters of the 17th century. Nay! The man behind these paintings, a moving symphony of diffuse hues and colors, golden tones and gradient greens, is a contemporary Japanese artist who knows his classics like the back of his hand.
This fall, the Galerie de l'Europe invites us on a poetic journey in the footsteps of Teruhisa Yamanobe, the great master of light born in Fukushima in the 1950s, who chose to leave his island native at the end of the 80s for the mildness of the western coast. When he left, the artist set himself the challenge of understanding the unfathomable mystery of nature as the Impressionists before him did. This meditative exhibition sheds light on his sensitive and nuanced work, characterized by its shades of gray, its orange variations, this sometimes light, sometimes vaporous fog and this magnetic and enveloping blur. The promise of a moment suspended in time, while we let ourselves be lulled by the silent harmony of its tranquil landscapes, lost in our thoughts.
