Terra Incognita exhibition at La Banque - Museum of Cultures and Landscape
The bank
Until May 19, 2024
Where are we ? Have we landed in Malta, Cairo, Naples or Venice, or are we chasing Pascal Vinardel's dreams in the lands of his childhood in Casablanca? If the colors of Morocco have left an indelible memory for this painter of the sun, it is clear that this land does not exist. The fruit of an imaginary collective memory, these familiar and distant landscapes, as if frozen by a long journey, are not located on any known map. A mystery that this exhibition could not solve... After this welcome stopover at La Banque d'Hyères, the artist Pascal Vinardel takes us here to the end of the world, to Terra Incognita, to the peaks of an interior continent plunging us through the selection of sixty-seven oils on canvas and washes into a lost paradise made of dawns and dusk, silences and setting suns. Man sometimes makes a shy appearance – a half-open shutter, a light on, a disappearing shadow – forming a strange contrast between the tranquility of this sweet absence and the overwhelming warmth of these ocher tones. Between the twilight scenes, peaceful interiors and harbor views, this exhibition bathed in golden light leaves us with an irresistible taste of honey and sandstorms.
