A portrait of Lady Diana signed Andy Warhol goes up for auction at a record price!

Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, Elvis Presley… Andy Warhol placed many celebrities at the center of his works… Including icons of the royal family like Princess Lady Diana, who continues to shine brighter 26 years after her sad death. And the least we can say is that this work brought in big profits!

Indeed, this canvas painted in 1982 was sold at auction in London on March 7 for the colossal sum of 2.8 million euros! Organized by Philips as part of the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening, this sale breaks all records!

Purchased for 120,000 euros by a private owner at Christie's in 1998, this work belonging to the Reigning Queens series of screen-printed portraits brilliantly combines royal elegance and the unique and vibrant style of the American pop-art genius. We see the princess seated, in a posture comparable to that of the Mona Lisa, approximately a year after her marriage to Prince Charles III.
