The Taste of the Renaissance exhibition at the Hôtel de la Marine
Follow the light. Discover a world of gold, technique and creativity. Stroll among princely gifts and master jewels. This Renaissance has the taste of precious stones and revisited antiques: more than one hundred and thirty pieces of goldwork, jewelry, glass and textiles rub shoulders at the Hôtel de la Marine, transformed for the occasion in a sumptuous cabinet of curiosities. In addition to the lights of these jewels and the works of Donatello, this exhibition shines with sparkling discoveries. This is evidenced by the presence of an exceptional notebook by Leonardo da Vinci, written “in mirror”, where the secrets of his thinking on perspective, anatomy, light and shadows are revealed.
Continue your visit. On the left, “one of the most beautiful ancient bronzes in the world” in the presence of this statuette of the Greek hero Meleager signed by the Renaissance genius L’Antico; on the right this crystalline bowl in rock crystal and enameled gold on which we can imagine Neptune and his wife Amphitrite reigning over the oceans. Then comes this tiny miniature of Charles IX as a child by François Clouet, a portrait of the King of France at the age of ten, no taller than eight centimeters but whose historical importance is capital. One more treasure to add to this golden exhibition to reconnect with the wonders of Humankind.
