Immediately discovered, immediately ransacked! Banksy's brand new mural was smeared with white paint overnight
As soon as discovered, immediately vandalized ! The green foliage dripping on the facade of the London building, designed by Banksy, was vandalized during the night . Demonstrating vandalism or another form of street art, who knows, the anonymous person smeared the wall fresco with white paint. Dismayed, a spokesperson for the borough of Islington announced that temporary measures would be put in place to protect what remains of the work. A story full of twists and turns…
This Monday, March 18, residents of the Finsbury Park district of Islington in north London were treated to an astonishing surprise when they woke up. In the corner of the building sat a bare tree, without leaves or garland. Then, one fine morning, it sports a thick green spot as a foliage. The cloud of paint spreads over the wall and seems to cover it. At the bottom left of the fresco, we can see a life-size young woman, armed with a paint hose with which she sprays the facade. As the day went on, the crowd lingered in front of the fresco, speechless. The rumor grew; we recognize Banksy’s hand, he’s the author! Indeed, we find his taste for subjects which denounce but which make people cringe. His taste also for the shady characters who intrude into the alleys, with their pouts that are both childish and sinister. The mystery did not last long, the famous street artist put an end to it by denouncing himself on his Instagram account. But we shouldn't expect much more from a die-hard puzzle fan. No carte, no explanation. Interpretations abound. Is this a metaphor for art to the rescue of life? About the deteriorating environment and our illusory hopes of repairing it? Or maybe the toxic color of this electric green denounces the pesticides we spray on nature? The possibilities are multiple but, alone in front of the fresco, they all make sense. It is Banksy art, that of surprise, of mystery, the art of awakening consciences, of disappearing then suddenly reappearing.
