The Birth of Waves exhibition at the Conciergerie

Émilie Faïf and Nicolas André are suspending an installation beneath the vaults of the Salle des Gens d'Armes (Hall of the Men-at-Arms), the largest Gothic civil hall in Europe, before a lengthy restoration campaign.
The hall has witnessed royal banquets, then served as a prison, and now welcomes visitors. It receives a suspended form that the Conciergerie describes as a fragment of poetry clinging to its medieval vaults. A supple material beneath eight centuries of stone, the contrast is immediately apparent upon entering.
The monument complements the visit with two additional offerings. Composer Marc Chouarain plays the Cristal Baschet, a glass and metal instrument whose sound seems to emanate from the walls. Three workshops are also available for families with children as young as 6.
The medieval halls of the Palais de la Cité will then close for renovations.
