« Esposa esposada », l’épouse menottée en espagnol : ces mots si proches sont-ils une coïncidence ou mauvaise blague ? En suivant la cause féministe qui lui tient à cœur tout en gardant la douceur caractéristique de ses œuvres, Carmen Mariscal a photographié une vingtaine de femmes portant une robe de mariée pas comme les autres : sa crinoline est composée de plus de mille menottes en acier. Ainsi, si leur visage semble découvert, le corps lui, reste indéniablement emprisonné, enfermé dans son silence et sa condition. Une sorte d’illustration personnelle et collective du piège conjugal, à méditer à la Maison de l’Amérique latine.
