Un regard pénétrant surplombé par des sourcils froncés, une bouche légèrement pincée, un noir et blanc métallique donnant à cette photographie de Paul Strand un air sculptural. Ce portrait d’un paysan charentais a fait le tour du monde élevant alors le photographe américain, véritable funambule de la chambre noire, au sommet de son art. La Fondation Cartier-Bresson revient aujourd’hui sur l’œuvre implacable de ce pionnier de la photographie, célébrant son travail objectif et contrasté, inspiré par la géométrie sous-jacente de ses sujets. Une harmonie parfaite se dégage de son œuvre, donnant à la photographie moderne une dimension sociale inégalée.
