Basquiat x Warhol, the titans exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation on video
It's a clash of the titans. Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol reunited once again around their joint works... A world first for this exhibition by the Louis Vuitton Foundation, which organizes a fabulous face-to-face encounter between these two geniuses, drawing a unique portrait of the New- 80s York Underground. Remember. At the time, in the ring, two giants opposed each other. On the one hand Jean-Michel Basquiat, comet of the American underground, on the other Andy Warhol, crowned father of pop art with his essential Marilyn and his Campbell's Soup. The two accomplices were the headliners of an exhibition-manifesto, two sovereigns of contemporary art who show themselves gloves in hand in a mythical series of photographs announcing the event. Forty years later, the Louis Vuitton Foundation is playing the game again by looking back on this legendary artistic cooperation at the end of a masterful exhibition highlighting their affinities and their differences. Here we discover creations with 4 striking hands, in XXL formats like this huge fresco 10 meters long, in which it is very difficult to identify the brush of one or the other of the two artists. Throughout the visit, we get caught up in the game, trying to detect the clues of each person's graphic signature at the heart of flamboyant collaborations, mixing paint, messages and trashy collages symptomatic of a furiously free era. Forms dialogue, styles merge, color rages, resounding like a call to denounce the abuses of a suffering society, a call that still resounds terribly today.
