The exhibition "We Live In Brightness" by Thu-Van Tran at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice

MAMAC Nice
From June 10 to October 1, 2023

With her photograms on paper and her porcelain sculptures, the Franco-Vietnamese artist invites us to live a sensitive experience at the heart of her suspended universe. If the artist ennobles any material under his fingers, the raw material of his works remains forever the most evanescent of all: fiction. Reminiscent of a colonial past, the stories to which Thu-Van Tran gives a tangible form thus materialize the intertwined history of Vietnam and France in a whirlwind of fragmented images. The immaterial coexists here with a body of heterogeneous works, photographs, drawings, films and installations that the visual artist brings together in situ to form a new narrative cycle that raises so many questions about our ability to remember and commemorate. An ode to impermanence, the ephemeral and the emergence of forms, this gentle exhibition highlights the main aspects of his work, such as the visible and imperceptible heritage of two cultures, the transformation sustainable landscapes, the survival of languages. Nourished by these concepts, Thu-Van Tran explores in depth the pitfalls of globalization by sculpting the invisible in perfect balance.
