Termite Bites exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo
Invasion alert! The Palais de Tokyo recently faced a new attack: termite bites. Behind this slightly pernicious name of'exhibition hides some fifty artists, more or less known, all contaminated by the all-consuming passion for a disjointed and ephemeral urban art. A romanticism of vandalism that leads them to take as much care of things as they damage them. This ambitious speculative rereading of the History of Art therefore approaches graffiti, not as a subject or an aesthetic, but as an experience, attitude or imagination. A common space nibbled away by the black and white photographs of John Divola or the colorful aerosols on canvas of A. One, a little street art prodigy who cut his teeth in the streets of Manhattan before succumbing to a ruptured aneurysm in the early 2000s. Here, anonymous silhouettes from the world of graffiti rub shoulders with great figures from the contemporary scene, such as Valie Export, a committed feminist personality and pioneer of media art. With its eclectic creations and scattered installations, the exhibition thus gives birth to a fragmented dialogue on the construction of identity, collective destruction, illicit actions and forms of resistance in culture.
