Our images of the 2023 edition of Les Extatiques on the Esplanade de La Défense
Between César’s Le Pouce surdimensionné, the colorful duo of Fantastic Characters by Joan Miró and L’Araignée XXL by Alexander Calder, strange monumental installations are revealed on the forecourt of La Défense. Facing the glass and steel buildings of the economic heart of the capital, Jérémy Gobé's coral refuge here seems to miraculously rise from the ground, while an inflatable falcon designed by Julien Salaud soars majestically skyward. Then we come face to face with the Giants of Arcimboldo by Philip Haas: huge sculptures culminating at more than five meters in height and each weighing around 400 kilos, resembling feature for feature the famous anthropomorphic still lifes of the Italian master. No doubt, The Ecstatics are back ! This year again, this open-air urban artistic stroll pushes the boundaries of contemporary art by inviting four artists to exhibit an emblematic work simultaneously at La Défense and at the Seine Musicale. A "mirror" exhibition articulated around the four elements and crossed by the creations of Bob Verschueren and Erwin Wurm.
