Who was Moshe Vorobeichic, known as Moï Ver? To elucidate this mystery and definitively lift the veil on the photographic work of an unknown artist, almost erased from art history textbooks, the Center Pompidou has brought together more than 300 unpublished photos, documents and prints. Cut-outs, close-up or low-angle views, off-framing and photomontages with an almost documentary precision that testify to the singularity of this discreet artist, a faithful friend of Fernand Léger and disciple of Paul Klee or Kandinsky. The first stage of a traveling planetary exhibition, this major retrospective thus follows in the footsteps of a forgotten photographer who devoted the first part of his life to the Jewish communities of Vilnius and the agricultural farms of the kibbutzim before regaining anonymity in the north of 'Israel.
