The Noblesse Oblige exhibition takes up residence at the Domaine de Kerguéhennec
Domain of Kerguehennec
Until November 5, 2023
With an exhibition title like this, the Domaine de Kerguéhennec offers us a one-way ticket to the past. An immediate dive into the History of France which begins with this fictional but life-size episode of the life of the castle led by the owners of the beginning of the last century. We are then in 1913 and Count Paul-Henri Lanjuinais shows his grandchildren a series of old objects illustrating the coats of arms and coats of arms of several noble families of the region. The opportunity for us to go back in time and discover sumptuous treasures from the 16th to the 19th century from private Breton collections and presented for the first time to the public outside these family homes. In the salons of honor of the Château de Kerguéhennec, precious old archives are thus revealed, portraits adorned with escutcheons, hunting weapons stamped with coats of arms and refined pieces of furniture like this Napoleon III chest of drawers in brass engraved on a blackened pear wood background. The luxury objects representative of the artistic tastes and fashions of the time correspond here with more modest pieces such as cutlery or earthenware accessories intended for the toilet. Everything to be seen and recognized at any time of the day, from sunrise to sunset, in a society concerned with appearances.
