Our images of the 2023 Issy Biennale at the Playing Card Museum - The Dream has its Reasons

16

“We are the stuff dreams are made of, and our little life is surrounded by sleep.” Two years after having “figured the cosmos” and brought the stars and stars of Pancho Quilici into dialogue with the chimeras of Robert Combas, the Biennale d'Issy this year explores the depths of our dreams with this oh-so-cryptic theme: “The dream has its reasons. » Inspired by the words of William Shakespeare in The Furious Tempest, this new edition intends to give free rein to his imagination by allowing himself a temporary stopover in the pensive minds of around sixty contemporary artists. This enchanting and dreamlike walk naturally begins alongside Jean-Charles de Castelbajac with his poetic and colorful installation demarcating around the Playing Card Museum the terrestrial borders of this romantic journey. The journey then continues with the forest of ladders by Marjolaine Dégremont then the aerial sculptures of Emma Nony before we finally find the monstrous watercolors of Barthélémy Toguo or the breathtaking charcoals on paper of Justine Joly, disturbingly realistic. Once we emerge from our lethargy, a question arises: was it a dream or reality?
