Exhibition Zloty, the father of street art dedicated in a fascinating free exhibition
Mathgoth Gallery
From September 23 to October 28, 2023
He is considered by art historians and critics to be the first urban art artist. The Mathgoth Gallery welcomes the indomitable Gérard Zlotykamien, alias Zloty, in a scathing exhibition which projects 60 years of refractory practice onto the walls with a large aerosol spray.
His story begins in 1963. While he is soon to exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art as part of the Paris Biennale, Zloty decides to prepare in England. He then created, in complete freedom, pictorial works in the street using enema bulbs filled with acrylic paint. Street art was born. This process would then become the artist's preferred mode of expression when, during the same Biennale, Eduardo Arroyo, a friend of the artist, was censored by the Ministry of Culture for diplomatic reasons. Zloty will then distance himself from the art world and its conventions to devote himself to urban art, more suited to his thirst for freedom. An extraordinary destiny that we celebrate today in the capital.
You will therefore be able, 60 years later, to discover the work of this extraordinary artist. It's from this Saturday, September 23, until October 28.
