Sixty human-sized sculptures scattered here and there in uncomfortable or contradictory positions, heads lowered, legs bent, arms outstretched, suspended from the ceiling or stacked on top of each other for no apparent reason... We have, let's say- le, all interest in keeping your feet on Earth during this stunning exhibition, while the artist Antony Gormley turns every corner of the Rodin Museum upside down. The lair of “Michelangelo of the 20th century” gave the British sculptor carte blanche to redefine all of its spaces and establish a powerful dialogue between past, future and present. Let us therefore not be surprised to come across in the French garden a line of twelve bodies lying on the ground heading, crouching or kneeling, towards the mythical Gates of Hell, one of the most great masterpieces of modern sculpture. Famous for his anthropomorphic statues, Antony Gormley imagined this astonishing body-to-body with the work of Rodin, contrasting his fields of cast iron steles and his totemic silhouettes in stainless steel with the sculptor's more classic curves. If the styles sometimes clash, the two men ultimately find a meeting point in their relationship with bodies and their love of forms.
