Serge Gainsbourg exhibition at the Hôtel Lutetia, an alternative to Maison Gainsbourg?
Are you afraid of the crowds around the Maison Gainsbourg? What if you took the time to visit Gainsbarre’s real lair?
On the occasion of the opening of Maison Gainsbourg, eight photographers are brought together by the Hegoa gallery to celebrate the memory of the artist in the Carré Rive Gauche, in the heart of the district where he lived, rue from Verneuil to Paris in the 7th arrondissement. During a walk in the neighborhood, you will discover images of: Claude Azoulay, Jean Jacques Bernier, Jean-Claude Deutsch, Michel Giniès, Frédérique Guin-Laurent, William Klein, Odile Montserrat and Yannick Ribeaut. The places participating: the Hôtel Lutetia, 45 Boulevard Raspail, the Hôtel de Lille, 30 rue de Lille, the Galerie Tiago, 39 rue de l'Université, the Galerie Pla, 18 rue de Beaune, the Galerie Jantzen, 18 bis rue de Beaune, 1831 Art Gallery at 6 rue de Lille, Galerie Philippe Vichot at 37 rue de Lille, Galerie Samarcand at 13 rue des Saint Pères and Galerie Ratton Ladriere at 11 Quai Voltaire.
Head to the Hôtel Lutetia, the only palace on the Left Bank, to discover this confidential exhibition located away from the spotlight and the glamor of its illustrious big sister at 5bis rue de Verneuil. However, it is here that the man with the head of cabbage had his habits. If the icon of French song has today disappeared, the Aristide, a cozy bar with a speakeasy feel, dedicates this sublime photographic tribute to him.
From the legendary portrait of Serge Gainsbourg as a femme fatale for the cover of his album Love on the Beat to the tender photos of the couple formed with Jane Birkin in their Parisian apartment, the exhibition here paints an intimate portrait of the singer. In Paris or Deauville, in the bathroom or in the kitchen, scenes of daily life parade like a family album.
With a cigarette in his mouth and a smile on his lips, Serge Gainsbourg appears peaceful here, surrounded by his loved ones and his faithful hound. A calmer version, going against the grain of the sulphurous, disillusioned and provocative image of the poet which unfortunately sticks so closely to him.
