Our images of the Poincaré house, the new temple of mathematics
Is mathematics a needlessly complex mess of numbers for you? Sorbonne University and the CNRS are joining forces to change your mind by inaugurating the first museum in the world dedicated to mathematics: the Poincaré house.
The institution pulls out all the stops here: augmented reality experiences, interactive games, sound experiences, fun data assimilation challenges... the Poincaré house is full of inventiveness to give the public a good time and bring them into the the universe of the discipline.
Because mathematics has a history, nourished year after year by researchers, engineers, teachers and enthusiasts who have contributed to advancing the discipline and society at the same time. Because the Poincaré house wants to let us know, mathematics is everywhere!
And to let us know, the museum has established a vast program of temporary exhibitions deemed to be of public interest which will make the link between this science and major contemporary issues. First to date: the exhibition “Enter the world of AI” which will be open to the public until April 2024.
A superb step forward for scientific mediation and the transmission of mathematics to the general public which begins on September 30, the date of the opening of the museum to the general public. A transmission for which the museum is ambitious: the Poincaré house hopes to welcome more than 30,000 visitors over the next three years, including 20,000 visitors as part of school outings, with at least 50% of them coming from priority areas of Île-de-France. For such an initiative, we wish them all the success in the world.
