Carla Fernandez exhibition “The handmade future” at the 19M gallery
A haute couture ensemble made from ancestral techniques more than 3000 years old? Here is the promise of Carla Fernández, guardian of Mexican know-how on the catwalks for more than 20 years. After a first visit to Denver and Mexico, the designer at the forefront of ethical fashion is now stopping off in Paris to the delight of fashion enthusiasts. It is in the Galerie du 19M, the new Eden of the House of Chanel, that the stylist signs this sumptuous parade combining preservation of traditions and an eco-responsible approach, all sprinkled with a formidable sense of staging. Here, Carla Fernández's designer silhouettes dare with color, animal print and Aztec motifs, while the immoderate use of leather in her creations recalls the traditional costume of the charros. To design each of her looks, the designer collaborated with more than 180 artisans, weavers, embroiderers, lacquerers and wood carvers, thus giving birth to spectacular creations like these models with flower heads created by Miyoko Yasumoto or of its XXL hats signed Maison Michel.
