Les Aliénés exhibition at Mobilier national, the return!
Here’s an exhibition that could just add some pep to your interior. The Mobilier national, a major place for heritage conservation, has given carte blanche to thirty-nine contemporary designers to bring up to date old bulky furniture destined for a disastrous fate. These once inalienable pieces have unfortunately lost their heritage value over the years, are now considered alienated and can therefore be sold, reused or undergo transformations for the better... or for the worse. Should we cry foul and the violation of ancient national treasures? No, but we can rejoice in this daring and successful bet! From a simple plant motif to the wildest eccentricities, the invited artists dare everything to give a second lease of life to their unfortunate work. If some are satisfied with a good lick of paint and a shiny lacquer, others compete in creativity like Valentine Huygues Despointes who literally transforms this old desk into a real treasure straight from the seabed. With his electrifying colors, the artist covers his victim with coral motifs and small fish to make it a work of art in its own right, fantastic and imaginary. Absolutely stunning!
