A Titanic menu sold for more than $100,000 at auction
The tragic story of the Titanic marked an entire generation. Its impact is such that even today, collectors are willing to spend fortunes to get their hands on even the slightest vestige of the ship. A passion that has driven the business of Henry Aldridge & His who sold a menu present on board the first class restaurant for more than 100,000 dollars.
This menu is dated April 11, 1912, just three days before the fateful night. According to the auction house, there are no other documents of this kind, which explains its value. The sellers also made a little more than expected, this menu having been estimated between 60,000 and 90,000 dollars.
Especially since this lot is not even the one that generated the highest expenditure. A pocket watch, which belonged to a Titanic victim, as well as a blanket that was on the ship's deck at the time of the sinking, both sold for nearly $120,000. Suffice it to say that fans of James Cameron's film will only be able to touch such vestiges with their eyes...
