Henri Michaux at the Hospice Saint-Roch Museum
SAINT-ROCH HOSPICE MUSEUM
Until December 29, 2024
Against "easy plenitude", Henri Michaux is the one who transgresses the rules. Brushstrokes, pen strokes, words that jump, that embrace each other, the author breaks the inertia. The Franco-Belgian is the sole captain of his poetic ship. The drawing appears to the disobedient as an even more liberating form of writing, since the lucky one does not bear the weight of the words. In China, the artist is challenged by the calligraphy he devotes himself to. Deploring the 40th anniversary of his death, the Hospice Saint-Roch Museum is honoring the inks and lithographs of the painter-poet. Come celebrate the one who one day wanted to “rip off the anchor that keeps [son] a ship away from the seas”.
Did you know?
The young Henri Michaux abandoned his medical studies for the ocean. His taste for traveling got the better of him since he became a sailor. Just in his twenties, he sailed during the First World War. His boat being disarmed, he had to disembark in 1921.
