Arabofuturs exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe
Everything you'll see here hasn't happened yet. With Arabofuturs, the Arab World Institute opens the doors to anticipation by betting on a deliciously vintage prophetic future; a parallel world haunted as much by the fantastic creatures and women with antennas of Neïla Czermak Ichti as by the retrofuturistic flying cars of Skyseeef, parked in the middle of the desert. Crossed by the eclectic universes of seventeen contemporary artists, this underground exhibition invites us to fantasize the world of tomorrow in a maze of hybrid installations flirting with our imagination.
Whether it is apocalyptic in the eschatological videos of Larissa Sansour or terribly organic in the mineral works of Hicham Berrada, the future here becomes a space-time torn between the interplay of reality and science fiction. With his surreal collages, Ayham Jabr immerses us in a Damascus besieged by a fleet of flying saucers with little green men armed with laser guns on board; while Zahra Al Ghamdi imagines a world in perpetual change, nibbled by her disturbingly poetic leather installations. An invitation to enter directly into the dreamlike world of the new Arab imaginations.
