André Steiner exhibition at the Museum of Art and History of Judaism
Museum of Jewish Art and History
From May 16 to September 22, 2024
Photographer André Steiner had a life rich in love, sport and photography. Himself a decathlon champion, the artist exhibits in his photos a straightened body, in search of perfection of gesture. He thus became a specialist in the body in movement and the nude, in particular that of his wife Léa. In the sixty photos revealed in this exhibition, we detect an intoxication of movement and the body, between the purity of antique statues and the creative experimentation of the 20th century. A follower of the communist ideal, Steiner considers the body as an individual as well as a social manifesto, offering an aesthetic black and white art, both sporting and political.
Did you know?
Some consider that sport, pushed to a very high level, becomes art. It is not uncommon for the greatest athletes to have an artistic practice. This is particularly the case of Serena Williams, the greatest tennis player of all time, and a painter in her spare time, and who has her own gallery!
