Immersive exhibition: An evening with the impressionists in virtual reality at the Musée d'Orsay
How would you like to experience the triumph of impressionism for an hour where it all began? Thanks to this unique experience in virtual reality, the Musée d’Orsay puts us at the forefront of a revolution that is still in its infancy, catapulting us into a Belle Époque Paris that is more real than life. The first stop on this temporal journey is none other than the former studio of photographer Nadar, setting for the very first impressionist exhibition. Berthe Morisot, Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissarro receive us, present their paintings before taking us towards other horizons... After a detour from Gare Saint-Lazare, we find Monet and Renoir painting side by side on the island of la Grenouillère, when daylight shifts. We leave Paris for the seaside and the small port of Le Havre, becoming, through the images, silent witnesses to the birth of a movement.
Did you know? This evening of April 15, 1874, Berthe Morisot is the only ambassador of the feminine gender. The criticisms are not long in coming. The press ridiculed the young artist, putting her work in the background: “There is also a woman in the group like in all the famous bands; her name is Berthe Morisot and she is curious to observe.” A few months later, another detractor suggested that Berthe Morisot was a prostitute. The young woman can fortunately count on Camille Pissarro who reacts quickly and triggers a general fight to defend the honor of her friend.
