Salon Page(s, a 26th sensual edition under the vaults of the Bastille Design Center in Paris from May 11 to 12, 2024
Bastille Design Center
From May 11 to 12, 2024
“Neither quite the same, nor quite another”… Once again, this brand new edition of Salon Page(s takes book lovers on board for a dreamlike weekend on the heights of literature and what other pen than that of the surrealist poets to take us to the confines of the imagination?
Through the selection of rare works both in content and form, the Bastille Design Center this year immerses us in the surrealist poetry of 20th century writers. A beautiful escape which revolves around the sensual curves of the poems of Paul Éluard whose verses follow the sinuous contours of the female body, sublimated here by the monochrome photos of Man Ray. Then, it is the turn of André Masson's original aquatints to enter the scene, giving body, life and substance to the captivating Erophages by André Maurois, while Kleist's Puppets enhance Hans Bellmer's engravings. Between the signature of Pablo Picasso and the prose of Louis Aragon, we can sense here the sensitivity of virtuoso artists, deliberately immodest, who knew better than anyone how to put images to words.
What if we told you that this presentation was just an appetizer? For its 26th edition, the Salon Page(s is laying bare, bringing together the flagship of the contemporary literary scene to help us discover the best-kept secrets of books by French and foreign artists. From tiny to monumental, the book comes together here in all forms, revealing the beauty that lies behind each image engraved with etching, burin or black matter. Enter this cabinet of curiosities, you will only have. to admire the extreme meticulousness of the paper cutouts from Atelier Dominique Digeon before letting yourself be devoured by the darkness of the linocuts from Atelier Hélène Baumel…
