Hush, the Klimt of street art at La Galerie Itinerrance: our images from the exhibition
Hush, the Klimt of street art, comes to La Galerie Itinerrance. Master of “layering”, this rising figure in urban art reveals his screen prints, graffiti, skateboards and paintings during a very personal exhibition. In his creation, the English artist draws a lot of inspiration from Japan where he lived and worked. There, he was fascinated to see the mix of cultures among Japanese women who, while maintaining part of their tradition, adopt Western clothing styles. He saw a striking mix of genres and above all, a dialogue between past and present, tradition and modernity, and it is this same exchange that he attempts to reproduce in his works.
His female models carry an ancient heritage, their posture, gaze and appearance take us back to distant and fantasized figures, those of the Geishas. It is this black and white base that Hush enjoys deconstructing by applying various street art methods. Screen printing, spray paint, acrylic, inks, Hush accumulates techniques and juxtaposes layers. He therefore dresses these mysterious women in lively and colorful drapes, and with a background made of graffiti or even gold leaf patterns, in the style of Klimt, applied by the artist by hand. The result creates a breathtaking contrast of colors, but also of themes. In his “Her” series, the graffiti also covers the body and the top of the face, leaving only the mouth and nose visible. With their always scarlet red lips, he then makes them symbols, enigmatic and voluptuous traces of universal femininity.
