Return to 19th century Paris with this open-air dance hall
Mark your calendars: unusual activity coming up!
A completely free costumed guinguette ball will take place on Sunday, May 5 at Butte-aux-Cailles. Immersing yourself in the Paris of 1840 is the crazy challenge launched by the collective Paris qui Danse, a group specializing in the organization of balls and social dances. This is the perfect opportunity to retrace the footsteps of renowned artists for an afternoon in a real period tavern, in the neighborhood that looks like a small village from the 13th borough.
How can we not think of the illuminated works of Auguste Renoir who depicted the customs and lifestyle of 19th century Paris with his numerous paintings of taverns. High gathering places for the Impressionists, but not only that, the popular and wealthy classes met there to have fun with dances and laughter.
To bring back these joyful moments of yesteryear, the collective meets from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the pleasant tavern on rue des Cinq-Diamants for a drink or to...dance! Indeed, it will be possible to attend demonstrations of traditional dances from the 19th century but also to learn the basics thanks to the costumed dancers present on site.
So it’s time for waltzing, womanizing and rowdiness!
