The extraordinary botanical garden of Val Rahmeh-Menton
Val Rahmeh-Menton Botanical Garden
Avenue Saint-Jacques, 06500 Menton
Lemons are not the only treasures of Menton. In Garavan Bay, at the gates of Italy, in a rocky amphitheater open to the sea, there is a haven of peace hidden from prying eyes. A green setting dominated by the mountains with its shaded paths and its bed of giant water lilies whose immense leaves spread to reach a width of two meters. Rich in several thousand exotic plants, this botanical garden is home to rare and precious flora where one thousand and eight hundred different species coexist, Canarian date palms, Tassili cypresses and giant tree ferns from Australia. Mediterranean vegetation mixes with lush varieties from Chile and South Africa. Facing the park's four-hundred-year-old olive trees, myrtle, fig trees, collections of citrus fruits and tropical fruit trees stand here like the extravagant hand of Buddha whose fragrant zests are sure to deliciously scent your nostrils. From aquatic pools to bamboo forests, your wandering takes you from discovery to discovery in this gigantic open-air greenhouse, right up to the dwarf palm tree, the only native palm on the Côte d'Azur. A nice overview of the plant kingdom that you will soon not want to leave.
