Free Union exhibition: MEMENTO Auch resonates
MEMENTO
Until October 13, 2024
In the sacred setting of the Carmel of Auch, a former Carmelite convent dating from 1640, the MEMENTO has emerged, a mecca for contemporary art open to all. Here, the memory of what “was” resonates with what “becomes”. And, to build a new society, what could be better than appealing to the imagination of artists? Nine visual artists, sculptors, videographers and other creators invade the 1400 m² of space to wake up time. As soon as we arrive in this timeless space, we are greeted by the colorful curtains of Ulla von Brandenburg, opening the doors of the mystical chapel. Like a passage between the banks, we enter the hypnotic Clérino Resonant Room. A few steps away, in an old abandoned cell in imposing silence, Basualdo's glass of water awaits us, suspended on the edge of a table, as if in weightlessness, in an impossible balance, immediately awakened by the captivating sound dance of the sculptures by Amir Youssef in the heart of the old Archives. Play, explore, experiment, the rules don't matter as long as the works open the doors to new futures for us, here in these beautiful vestiges of the past.
Around the exhibition - Summer nights
Every Wednesday evening in summer, as soon as the sun begins to set, a striking metamorphosis takes over the MEMENTO cloister. From 7 p.m., this ancestral space transforms into a vibrant bubble of artistic exploration. From the open-air cinema projected under the stars to the captivating rhythms of electronic music, including the excitement of a masked ball where identities mingle in an intoxicating dance, these Wednesdays promise us memorable festive moments.
Every Wednesday in July and August, from 7 p.m. - Free entry
