Vincent Munier presents En Forêt: the exhibition at the Musée des Confluences
Confluences Museum
Until April 27, 2025
Without a sound, Vincent Munier takes us on a stroll to the peaks of his unfathomable work. Invited by the Musée des Confluences, the award-winning photographer for his photographs from the ends of the world deserted the icy landscapes of Tibet to show us, from dusk to dawn, the familiar woods of his childhood in the Vosges. In cathedral silence, we set off on an exploration mission while holding our breath. Plunged into darkness, lulled by the murmurs of the forest, we advance slowly, amazed by the poetry that surrounds the furtive encounter between two living beings. Finally, the patient eye of the photographer reveals to us all the secrets of nature in a series of ghostly photos and the projection of an original film of around twenty minutes, free of any commentary. Here, the silhouettes of birds, foxes or deer are silhouetted like Chinese shadows, fleeting shapes are outlined in the moonlight before sinking into the mist. Lynx, owls and capercaillie come out of their hiding places, stand out from the dark darkness of the night to populate this grandiose but threatened territory, whose true beauty appears to us here in a new light.
