Jackson Pollock, early years exhibition at the Picasso Museum Paris
11
Jackson before he became Pollock. The Picasso Museum is devoting an exhibition to the brilliant inventor of action painting long before he became the anti-hero of American painting. Torn between his figurative canvases and his sculpted work, this cutting-edge exhibition focuses on the artist's first years in the ruthless world of modern art: nine years during which the future "Jack the Dripper" gropes, searches, experiments , rubs shoulders with Pablo Picasso by revisiting the hybrid and surrealist figure of the Minotaur in a resolutely cubist vocabulary before rediscovering primitive art.
From his first creations marked by the aesthetics of Mexican muralists to his first drippings in 1947, here we follow the journey of an artist on the razor's edge, vacillating between two worlds, between the influence of the arts Native Americans and that of the European avant-gardes, silently assisting in the making of a myth. More than creatures and chimeras, from these pivotal years there remains a creative impulse, a silent rage and a taste for dreams. By agreeing to confront his inner demons, Pollock nevertheless created an art beyond the bounds of America.
Did you know? Jackson Pollock died at the age of 44 in a tragic car accident, probably caused by his chronic alcoholism.
