Birth and Renaissance of Italian drawing exhibition at the Custodia Foundation!
Custodia Foundation
From October 12, 2024 to January 12, 2025
“Drawing is the moment when the idea springs forth.” An idea which can take the form of a foot in the painter of the wise men Benozzo Gozzoli, the portrait of a man barely sketched by the prince of artists Annibale Carracci or that of a naked woman in the Gothic lord Pisanello… The Custodia Foundation, a true temple of drawing in Paris, celebrates the meeting of thought, pen and paper in a ballet of serpentine lines and brown inks. Usually nestled in the bowels of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, some of the most beautiful Italian leaves from the 15th th and 16th th centuries are revealed today in this dizzying exhibition of preciousness. Between a red study of Correggio, a wash of Parmesan or a white chalk sketch by Barocci, we follow in a procession of masterpieces the clear line drawn by the Holy Trinity of the arts: we see Leonardo de Vinci freezes the meeting of Leda and the swan with black stone, Michelangelo sketches a bust of a man in profile in a profusion of luxuriant details, while Raphael closes the loop with a metal-point study of little Saint John -Kneeling Baptist, a motif that we invariably find in his Madonnas and Child.
