Under the radiant sky of this new school year, the Swedish Institute is adorned with an enchanting installation which unfolds from the elegant setting of its paved courtyard to the interior spaces of its 16th century architecture century. Four renowned women artists – Louise Hederström, Aia Jüdes, Malin Bobeck Tadaa and Hanna Hansdotter – explore here the interactions between nature, tradition and modernity. Their creations, at once durable, rich and playful, are expressed around a timeless Nordic macrocosm. Here the colorful lichen rubs shoulders with a playful framework, the red paint of Falun combines with sculptures and leather objects of art. Halfway between a bewitched forest and a dreamlike galaxy, these unique works dare a surrealist dialogue between Swedish traditions and contemporary technologies. The disturbing silhouettes of Malin Bobeck Tadaa orchestrate a strange luminous choreography, synchronizing their breathing with that of the movement of the stars, while Hansdotter displays his opulent lanterns on an exuberant baroque punk stage. All that remains are the infinitely precise wooden knots of Aia Jüdes to invite us to slow down the pace and try to follow them.
