A new museum in Paris is reviving La Fontaine and his fables.
The Immersive City of Fables
Starting September 6, 2025
The Immersive City of Fables offers us a monumental plunge into the world of Jean de La Fontaine, his fables, and his creatures. Spanning over 1,000 m², we discover a magical journey where lush sets, special effects, and immersive technologies transform the famous fables into a total visual and sensory experience.
The journey lasts nearly an hour and a half and takes us from space to space, through bold and poetic reinterpretations of La Fontaine's greatest works. Flamboyant costumes, enchanting makeup, and modernized dialogue: everything combines to give new vigor to these stories, which are over three centuries old. The fabulist's bestiary is reinvented thanks to an exceptional cast: Laurent Stocker of the Comédie-Française embodies La Fontaine, Alexandre Astier portrays an imposing Lion, Arielle Dombasle lends her voice to the Wolf, Charles Berling slips into the role of the Fox, and Marie S’Infiltre becomes a Frog full of irony. Around them, a brilliant troupe brings to life the animals and characters of the fables, from the Crow, embodied by the opera singer Axelle Saint-Cirel, to the Donkey, played by Félix Junier.
As we journey through the Grand Siècle of Louis XIV and its splendor, we also encounter echoes of the contemporary world. Vegetated sets, 360° video projections, 3D spatialized sound, lighting effects, and even an olfactory experience: the scenography engages all the senses, enriched by a demanding interpretive program. To close, a 25-minute video-mapping show projects the fables into a kaleidoscope of images—from Japanese prints to street art—accompanied by a reimagined recitation and a soundtrack by the collective Bon Entendeur, which blends French literature and electronic rhythms.
A lively and vibrant experience, to be enjoyed without moderation.
