Exhibition Extensions at the Institute of Islamic Cultures
Institute of Islamic Cultures
From March 21 to July 26, 2026
When the field overflows. The match seemed over. Yet it continues. Reunited after an initial collaboration in 2022, M’barka Amor, Ouassila Arras, and Dalila Dalléas Bouzar pick up the game where it left off.
Not to replay the same scene, but to stretch its boundaries, shift the rules, and question what sport promises—and what it leaves behind. The exhibition space becomes a field to explore. One moves through it as if in a locker room after exertion, between tiled surfaces that one scrapes until exhaustion, ceramics arranged like fragile talismans, portraits of children whose jerseys bear the names of global icons. As one progresses, the sporting celebration becomes more unsettling. The glare of the spotlights also reveals its blind spots. The dream of social mobility, so often associated with football or athletics, is examined here without naiveté. Behind the stars sewn onto some jerseys, how many trajectories are cut short, bodies worn down, promises broken? The playing field becomes a revealer of the economic, racial, and symbolic determinisms that shape paths long before kickoff. Each of the artists brings her own unique language. M’barka Amor weaves intimate and diasporic narratives where memory and resistance intertwine. Ouassila Arras works with the material as one might excavate an archive, bringing to light the silences of a still-vibrant Franco-Algerian history. Dalila Dalléas Bouzar, faithful to portraiture as a critical tool, confronts the viewer with faces that simultaneously embody pride, vulnerability, and tension. Together, they shift the focus to a space larger than that of stadiums. What is at stake is no longer merely performance, but a struggle for representation and for the very possibility of dreaming.
