Exhibition "Bonjour Monsieur Gauguin!" at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
From October 30, 2026 to February 28, 2027

Hello Mr. Gauguin! The Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest has assembled one hundred and fifty works, eighty of which are by Gauguin himself. Hungary has never before exhibited so many.

The museum has chosen a specific angle: circles. Around Paul Gauguin, are those he encountered, influenced, and sometimes overshadowed, from the inn in Pont-Aven to the landscapes of Tahiti. The loans come from MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum. Earthly paradise, exoticism, rebellion: the three obsessions that transformed his painting serve as the thread running through the exhibition, from Breton scenes to the bold colors of his later years. The museum continues a series begun twenty years ago with its retrospectives of Monet, Van Gogh, and Cézanne.
