A Venetian Carnival at the Château de Breteuil, Sunday, October 11, 2026

BRETEUIL CASTLE
Sunday, October 11, 2026

For one day, the Château de Breteuil, in the Chevreuse Valley, lends its gardens to Venice: on Sunday, October 11, 2026, about thirty masked and costumed characters stroll among the flowerbeds, fountains, and labyrinth.

Le château de Breteuil

They arrive from Venice via the Chevreuse road. Wearing velvet capes, panniered dresses, tricorn hats, and bautas, the members of the association Au fil des idées spend the day in the gardens of the Château de Breteuil as if they had always lived there. You might bump into them at the turn of a grove, find them posing in front of the brick and stone facade, and follow them to the labyrinth. They aren't acting; they inhabit the setting, and that's what makes the day so charming.

The rest of the estate can be visited as usual: the château and its furnished rooms, populated with wax figures that recount three centuries of family history; the formal French gardens; the kitchen garden; and the Perrault fairy tales brought to life in the outbuildings, making Breteuil a perfect outing for children. Visitors are invited to come in masks or costumes and mingle with the Venetians for photos.

To continue: our family outings and our regional exhibitions.
