A poils, à plumes ou à écailles, une véritable faune jalonne les travaux de cet artiste prolifique. Sur les 2 300 œuvres qu’il a réalisées au cours de sa vie, près d’un tiers représente avec tendresse des animaux, ses chiens, fidèles compagnons de route, ou les innombrables chats qui se prélassaient dans son jardin. Chevaux, poissons, poules ou encore vaches viennent enrichir le véritable bestiaire de Pierre Bonnard. Construite de manière thématique, l’exposition révèle les secrets de la peinture de l’artiste, l’insouciance de son trait, l’humour de ses caricatures de chat blanc faisant le gros dos, la lumière intense et sauvage de sa palette de couleurs et son affection infinie pour ces sujets à quatre pattes.
