Artiste nomade, Louis-Cyprien Rials a parcouru de nombreuses régions comme le Moyen-Orient, les pays non reconnus et les zones radioactives ou interdites, qu’il considère comme des « parcs naturels involontaires » afin de se confronter à la réalité du monde. De ces expériences, il en livre une image silencieuse, presque mystique à travers la vidéo et la photographie. Ce n’est pas par hasard s’il est le lauréat du prix SAM pour l’art contemporain 2017 qui permet aux artistes de voyager à travers le monde et de concrétiser un projet en dehors de leur périmètre culturel habituel. Il présente au Palais de Tokyo l’aboutissement de son travail qu’il a réalisé au Ouganda. Il s’agit d’un film adapté de Rashomon de 1950 du célèbre réalisateur japonais Akira Kurosawa et d’un ensemble d’objets qu’il a réalisé avec Ramon Film Production. Dans son film, il mêle des références cinématographiques et culturelles, tout en laissant entrevoir la réalité des ghettos ougandais et en racontant, à travers une fiction, que les points de vue et les vérités peuvent être multiples, pour un résultat saisissant et bouleversant.

Louis-Cyprien Rials shows his own vision of an unknown world through a film and a series of objects made in Uganda that he presents at the Palais de Tokyo.
