Claudia Wieser puts Forms at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum
Straight lines, geometric shapes and large flat areas of primary colors... Are we looking at a haute couture piece or a real work of art? And does this exhibition invite us to enter the wardrobe of an aesthete or to visit an artist's studio? The Yves Saint Laurent Museum voluntarily blurs the tracks in this thematic display highlighting the creator's love for constructivism and his taste for concrete art. Yet Yves Saint Laurent is not going it alone here. Between the supple lines of the “Trapeze” silhouettes and the cubist-inspired jackets in cold and sharp colors, the works of the German artist Claudia Wieser mingle.
Influenced by Vassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, his geometric creations are paired here with some forty haute couture models, ready-to-wear, accessories and sketches by the couturier. The satin and leather patchworks therefore correspond with the patterns of his sculptures, while the designer's outfits in electrifying pop colors blend naturally into their new, immersive and graphic decor.
