The Voyage dans le Cristal exhibition at the Cluny museum in pictures
Luxury, calm and voluptuousness: three words to sum up this luminous exhibition imagined as a fabulous journey towards the opalescent constellations of crystal. For this long journey through the centuries, the Cluny museum, sublime showcase of the Lady and the Unicorn, has been transformed into a veritable cabinet of curiosities with no less than 200 priceless pieces including more than one hundred inherited directly from the Middle Ages. From the naked and translucent body of a crouching Aphrodite to the golden chalice of Mazarin, including this rare silver reliquary set with precious stones, the exhibition here collects masterpieces, jewelry and accessories, royal scepters and scholarly instruments. Among all its amassed treasures, perhaps you will linger on this copper fan from 1140 or this captivating crystal ball from the 15th century. Humans' fascination with the transparency of quartz, its scientific virtues, its aesthetic qualities or its enigmatic spiritual powers fortunately did not end with the Renaissance. Proof of this is with this unique installation by contemporary artist Patrick Neu, to whom we already owe a fragile crystal samurai armor, and which here marks the most perfect conclusion to an exhibition which does not lack clarity.
