Issy Wood exhibition at Lafayette Anticipations, an English show in Paris
6
Is Issy Wood on her way to becoming the next star of the contemporary scene? Unknown in France, this young artist already has everything she needs to be great and can count on the unwavering support of real heavyweights in the industry, from giant Larry Gagosian to music super-producer Mark Ronson. Lafayette Anticipations, a true incubator of young talents, is in turn doing well by dedicating its very first solo exhibition to him in the capital. An obvious display imagined like a business card, or even a diary. Through the selection of around sixty recent paintings, the London artist reveals the underside of her caustic universe in a classic style mixed with cynical humor. Between old grandmother's clocks and ultra-kitsch porcelain pieces, Issy Wood takes a half-amused, half-reproachful look at his time, depicting in as many series the power games that govern women's lives and that she explores through paintings of hypersexualized leather jackets, gleaming car interiors, dated services or disturbing self-portraits. A first meeting without a hitch for a young artist who does not lack bite
