Our images of contemporary ceramics, the exhibition at the Joseph Déchelette museum
Joseph Déchelette Museum
From December 2, 2023 to May 27, 2024
Ceramic art like you've never seen it. The Musée Déchelette orchestrates a sumptuous face-to-face between its rich collection crossed by the great names of enamel, stoneware and glazed terracotta and a recent donation structured around around fifty virtuoso ceramic artists. And who other than the pioneer Pierre Bayle to initiate this multiple presentation?
Halfway between craftsmanship, art and design, this fiery exhibition compares the historical sources of modern ceramics with the flagship of contemporary creation, notably contrasting one of the oldest pieces in its collection – the famous “Bol de Roanne” – with the fanciful, precious and baroque compositions of Valérie Ceulemans.
Here, the poetry of a sandstone sculpture by Bernard Dejonghe dialogues with the captivating work of Anne Verdier, while the spotted patterns of Swedish ceramist Hans Hedberg – known for his creations in the shape of giant fruits or XXL eggs – correspond with the fragility of Rémi Bohnert’s pieces. Eclectic in both content and form, this diverse exhibition celebrates above all the guarantors of centuries-old know-how.
