Olga de Amaral exhibits at the Cartier Foundation
Cartier Foundation
From October 12, 2024 to March 16, 2025
How can such a luminous artist remain for so long in the shadow of major museums? The Cartier Foundation puts an end to these years of confusion by raising Olga de Amaral, a true meteor of the Colombian artistic scene and star of Fiber Art, to the rank of icon by dedicating to him his largest retrospective ever seen to date in Europe. From its metal screens suspended in the air to its three-dimensional aerial weavings, the exhibition sheds light on the sparkling work of a plastic artist with golden fingers. Ninety historical creations, monumental installations and three-dimensional pieces covered in gold and silver transport us into his iridescent universe where high Native American popular traditions mingle with the brilliant geometry of abstraction.
At once paintings, sculptures, tapestries and architecture, these hieratic works, all vertical or oblique, crush us with their height, freeing themselves from the walls of the foundation to float in the air and envelop us in their golden world.
